Today we are visiting interior desinger Jill Brinson's renovated cottage home in Atlanta. Hard to believe it is in the heart of a busy city and stands next to a 20-story apartment building. A mix of rustic, traditional and industrial styles, you will see salvaged beams, Moroccan tapestries, steel windows and doors, and lots of different textures.<br /><br /><img id="fb_image" src="http://www.housebeautiful.com/cm/housebeautiful/images/G3/brinson-10-de.jpg" style="top: -5px; left: -6px; width: 502px; height: 392px;" /><br />The outdoor sofa and ottomans were painted gray and upholstered in taupe Sunbrella to harmonize with the stone terrace.<br /><br /><img id="fb_image" src="http://www.housebeautiful.com/cm/housebeautiful/images/GD/brinson-1-de.jpg" style="top: -55px; left: 44px; width: 463px; height: 591px;" /><br />A nine-foot-tall steel door replaced a wood door in the entry. The floor is reclaimed French limestone.<br /><br /><img id="fb_image" src="http://www.housebeautiful.com/cm/housebeautiful/images/ta/brinson-2-de.jpg" style="top: -55px; left: 44px; width: 463px; height: 591px;" /><br />Designer Jill Sharp Brinson and her husband, Rob, renovated the 1936 cottage's old barn beams to define the living room loft and used steel shelves to hold books.<br /><br /><img id="fb_image" src="http://www.housebeautiful.com/cm/housebeautiful/images/cH/brinson-3-de.jpg" style="top: -55px; left: 44px; width: 460px; height: 587px;" /><br />A Moroccan tapestry hangs from the living room loft, between mirrored sconces. The antique French industrial table is one of a pair — the other one is in the entry.<br /><br /><img id="fb_image" src="http://www.housebeautiful.com/cm/housebeautiful/images/k1/brinson-4-de.jpg" style="top: -5px; left: -6px; width: 556px; height: 435px;" /><br />Three layers of white mixed with gray, and a spray-on lacquer finish for the dining room's wall to wall hutch. Dishes are displayed behind chicken wire. Wicker chairs and industrial style table. A Moroccan necklace drapes a mirrored bottle.<br /><br /><img id="fb_image" src="http://www.housebeautiful.com/cm/housebeautiful/images/wS/brinson-5-de.jpg" style="top: -5px; left: -6px; width: 500px; height: 391px;" /><br />A stone faux-bois dining table from France and iron gazebo from Anthropologie sit at the end of the gravel driveway. Brinson planted waves of clipped boxwood, magnolia, hydrangea, anise, and holly to screen out the 20-story building just 15 feet away.<br /><br /><img id="fb_image" src="http://www.housebeautiful.com/cm/housebeautiful/images/AU/brinson-6-de.jpg" style="top: -55px; left: 44px; width: 500px; height: 638px;" /><br />In the kitchen, the tile top on the Martha Stewart table was replaced with Georgia marble. Floors are limed ash.<br /><br /><img id="fb_image" src="http://www.housebeautiful.com/cm/housebeautiful/images/Ah/brinson-9-de.jpg" style="top: -55px; left: 44px; width: 507px; height: 647px;" /><br />In the library, antique French shutters serve as closet doors.<br /><br /><img id="fb_image" src="http://www.housebeautiful.com/cm/housebeautiful/images/8k/brinson-11-de.jpg" style="top: -5px; left: -6px; width: 603px; height: 472px;" /><br />Upper cabinets were not used in the kitchen so as not to block the view of the garden. The Dijon mustard-coloured slop sink was an online find. <span style="visibility: visible;" id="main"><span style="visibility: visible;" id="search">A slop sink was originally used and designed for filling and emptying scrub pails, rinsing out mops or soaking laundry. Here it is just used as an every day kitchen sink.<br /><br /></span></span><img id="fb_image" src="http://www.housebeautiful.com/cm/housebeautiful/images/Rs/brinson-12-de.jpg" style="top: -55px; left: 44px; width: 501px; height: 640px;" /><br />Library walls are upholstered in a crewel fabric from Brinson's extensive textile collection. An array of interesting items are displayed on these old Polish factory shelves.<br /><br /><img id="fb_image" src="http://www.housebeautiful.com/cm/housebeautiful/images/Qs/brinson-13-de.jpg" style="top: -55px; left: 44px; width: 501px; height: 640px;" /><br />An antique French writing table is paired with a wing chair.<br /><br /><img id="fb_image" src="http://www.housebeautiful.com/cm/housebeautiful/images/HE/brinson-14-de.jpg" style="top: -5px; left: -6px; width: 502px; height: 392px;" /><br />No curtains required in the master bedroom: The garden screens the room from view. Brinson added steel testers, to raise the bed height, and designed adjustable clip-on reading lights.<br /><br /><img id="fb_image" src="http://www.housebeautiful.com/cm/housebeautiful/images/VI/brinson-15-de.jpg" style="top: -55px; left: 44px; width: 501px; height: 640px;" /><br />The design of the sink base is adapted from a French draper's table Brinson saw in Provence.
